Check the upload limit and keep the original
If an application accepts PDFs up to 2 MB, set the target to 2 MB in PDF Fit. The tool uses 1,000,000 bytes per MB. The receiving website may use a different convention, so check both the actual result size and whether the upload is accepted.
Keep your original and save the result under a different name. An already compressed PDF or a long scanned document may have little room for further reduction. Setting a target does not guarantee that the result will fit.
Select, set a target, and inspect the result
PDF Fit processes files in the browser without requiring an account. Its PDF processing code does not upload the file to a server. It does not automatically clear downloaded files or browsing history on a shared computer.
- Open PDF Fit and select the PDF. If it requires a password to open, prepare an unlocked copy first.
- Choose the receiving website’s size limit as your target and start compression. Keep the tab open during processing.
- Check the actual size and whether the target was met. Read any failure message rather than treating an oversized result as success.
- Download the result and open every page in a PDF viewer before submitting it. The built-in preview shows only the first page.
Stronger compression can change document features
PDF Fit first cleans up the document structure, then tries recompressing images while preserving text. If stronger compression is needed, it can turn entire pages into images. File size alone does not tell you whether the result is suitable.
After page rasterization, visible text may no longer be searchable or selectable. Links, form fields, video, and attachments may also be lost. If a submission requires searchable text or fillable fields, test those features in the downloaded result.
Inspect small text, stamps, and the last page
For a scanned certificate, zoom in on the page with the smallest writing. Compare names, dates, signatures, stamp edges, and numbers in tables with the original. If a barcode or QR code matters, check whether it can still be read.
A twelve-page document may have a clear cover and a blurry table on its last page. Do not judge the whole file by the first-page preview. Check the page count and order as well as legibility throughout the downloaded document.
If the target is missed or the file will not open
If compression cannot reduce the original, PDF Fit does not offer a larger file as a successful result. Follow the target-failure guidance, adjust the target only if the receiving website permits it, or reduce oversized images in the original authoring tool. Recompressing the same result may damage quality further.
The screen labels the per-file limit as 300 MB; the internal limit is 300 × 1024² bytes. Password-protected or damaged PDFs, and devices short on memory, can prevent completion. Check that the original opens in another PDF viewer and keep that original intact.
